Let's face it, Yoenis Cespedes didn't stand such a big chance to provide a real return on the New York Mets' investment when he signed for four years and $110 million ahead of the 2017 season. He was already on the wrong side of 30, and and can't seem to stay on the field thanks to injury after injury. He has been out all of this year after undergoing heel surgery, and things just got even worse Monday.

In an utterly outrageous development, la Potencia suffered a fractured ankle on his ranch in Florida. It may as well go without saying at this point: this guy is one of the most blunderous free agent acquisitions in all of baseball.

This newest injury will push Cespedes's return back even further, and the Mets now have no clue as to when the slugger will begin baseball activities again.

All told , the guy is owed $29 million this year and $29.5 million in 2020, his age 34 season. If that isn't enough to send you into a deep depression, you're probably a Buddhist monk.

In the past three years with the Mets, Cespedes has only played in 251 total games. He's played 100 games in a season just once during his current tenure, and has hit a disappointing 57 homers overall. That's just not good enough.

The Mets are giving Cespedes a lot of money to convalesce at his ranch in Florida. That honestly sounds like a nice life, but it makes the franchise looks like fools.
