The 2019 offseason has been anything but kind to Chance Adams.

First, the 25-year-old right-hander was the odd man out following the Yankees' signing of Gerrit Cole, as the club subsequently designated him for assignment to clear up a roster spot for their expensive new weapon.

Fast forward a few days later, however, and MLB insider Mark Feinsand reported that Adams has been dealt to the Kansas City Royals rather than returning to New York's minor league system.

The return package consists of minor league infielder Cristian Perez, a 21-year-old infielder who hit .252 with Single-A Wilmington this past year.

This will be a tough pill for Adams to swallow, as he was once regarded as one of the most lauded arms in the Yankees farm system. Though he was once dominant across the minor league ranks, the Dallas Baptist University product failed to muster any sort of success in the big leagues.

Across 33 innings for the Pinstripes, Adams logged an 8.18 ERA and 1.879 WHIP. Furthermore, the former fifth-round draft pick has compiled a 4.72 ERA in roughly 200 innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since his world-beating 2017-2018 campaign.

Perhaps a change of scenery is just what Adams needs to turn his career around and ignore the shoulder problems that set him off course. He'll certainly have a clear path to a rotation opportunity in KC.
