Yankees' Randy Levine Reportedly Joked That Robinson Cano Needed Steroids 6 Years Before PED Suspension

Randy Levine is polarizing in certain sectors of New York Yankees fandom, but you can't really get away with suggesting that the team president hasn't seen a little bit of everything. And in a truly intriguing twist of fate, he might very well be something of a Nostradamus as well.

In email correspondence with then-Yankee Alex Rodriguez back in 2012, Levine joked that A-Rod's teammate, Robinson Cano, needed steroids in order to break out of what he perceived to be a slump.

Sure, he was almost certainly being sarcastic. But in 2018, Cano was suspended 80 games for taking PEDs. So... there's that.

"How r u feeing since u left [Cano] under 200, he needs some steroids fast!" Levin wrote in one email to Rodriguez, as disclosed by writer Steve Fishman in New York Magazine.

"Hey, what’s up with Robby. This guy must not be using the liquid," he wrote in a subsequent message.

Hmmm. Does this make Levine a witch? We're not saying it does. We're just asking questions.

By 2018, when Cano played for the Mariners, he tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball. He caught on with the Mets for the 2019 season, but ended up posting career lows in batting average and RBIs, and has clearly never recovered from the rut that suspension placed him in.

It's almost like Levine knew something. He must have read it in the cosmos -- which is probably where the Mets now wish they could send ol' Robby and his burdensome contract.
