The New York Yankees made an addition to their front office on Monday, as they hired Michael Mellis as their Executive Vice President and Chief Counsel.

Previously, Mellis was an Executive VP and General Counsel for Major League Baseball.

Ellis, who went to Harvard Law School, began his career in baseball in the media sphere, including 15 years as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for MLB Advanced Media. For roughly the last four years, he's been working as an Executive VP and General Counsel for MLB.

The reason for this hire is still unclear, but it's another brilliant guy with experience in the game setting up shop with the Yankees.
