The New York Yankees were able to do more than tread water last season, but their lack of a superstar ace at the front of their rotation was exposed when the Astros beat them in the ALCS.

With two of the most dominant starting pitchers in all of baseball in Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg on the open market, Yankees GM Brian Cashman confirmed that the Bronx Bombers will be in on both of those aces.

Cole went 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and 326 strikeouts, making him the betting favorite to win the AL Cy Young. Strasburg's regular season numbers (18-6, 3.32 ERA, 251 strikeouts) were impressive enough, but his playoff dominance that ended up bringing him a World Series MVP trophy shot his value up into the stratosphere.

However, as Cashman mentioned on Monday night, there are no monetary bounds for the Yankees this offseason.

You can't stop Cashman and the Yankees from going big game hunting. After striking out on the biggest names last year, the Yankees are going to make sure they come out of this free agent period with at least one potential ace.
