Yankees First-Round Pick Anthony Volpe's Old Didi Tweet Proves He's a Perfect Fit in New York

With the 30th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, the New York Yankees selected SS Anthony Volpe from Delbarton High School in Morristown, N.J.

And as MLB fans usually do, they flocked straight to Twitter to look at some of the past comments made by the future Bronx Bomber, excited by the possibility of having a local kid in the fold.

Turns out, the kid's a Yankee fan, and loves current shortstop Didi Gregorius. Proving he's one of us, he tweeted out a few "thumbs downs" following Didi's three-run homer against the Minnesota Twins to tie up the 2017 Wild Card Game.

If that doesn't prove his admiration for the Yankees, maybe this will:

His coach at Delbarton reiterated Volpe's love for the organization in the following statement:

“He got drafted by the team that he’s always dreamed of playing for. It just worked out that way. I know that he’s thrilled and so are his teammates. I think there’s a real good chance [he signs]. I don’t think they would’ve taken him in the first round [otherwise]."

Volpe was exceptional during his high school baseball career. He posted a .488 batting average this season with 19 extra base hits and 34 RBI in 84 plate appearances. The minor leagues will be a whole different animal, but his past success is definitely an indicator that the best is yet to come for the first-round pick.

And if there's any way the Yanks can get him out of a Vanderbilt commitment, letting him work with Didi might be helpful.
