Given the season he put together in 2019, it was largely expected that Brian Cashman and the New York Yankees would look to keep Brett Gardner in the Bronx.

Rumors have surfaced here and there throughout the early stages of MLB's offseason, and we now have another to account for.

Per insider Jon Heyman, the Yanks have extended (another) new, short-term contract to Gardy and his representatives

Both sides are clearly keen on a "reunion," and the Yankees currently don't have a center fielder on their active roster due to Aaron Hicks' offseason Tommy John surgery.

It's taking longer than anticipated but it looks like the two sides are nearing an agreement.

Whatever the reason for the delay, we thoroughly expect that a deal will get done in the not so distant future. Given how advanced talks reportedly are, it's a matter of if, not when.

The 36-year-old has spent his entire 12-year career in pinstripes, and he's hoping to be brought back on a new deal.

For now, Yankees fans should keep the faith and stay tuned for updates.
