We have some truly devastating news to convey from the Arkansas State community.

Head football coach Blake Anderson took to Twitter on Tuesday to tragically state that his wife, Wendy Anderson, has passed away after a battle with breast cancer. She was 49 years old.

If you're wondering why the HC took to social media to announce something as serious and grim as this, it's because that's what he's done throughout her treatment. The Andersons were so loved that Red Wolves Nation clamored for regular updates on Wendy's status. Blake was just answering their calls.

So, so gut-wrenching.

Wendy was first diagnosed in 2017, and her husband took a brief leave of absence before that season as she underwent treatment. Surgery was originally successful and doctors expected her to make a full recovery. However, the cancer unexpectedly returned in 2018.

Fast forward to just last month and the Anderson family was informed that Wendy's most recent cycle of chemotherapy were unsuccessful.

Arkansas State granted Anderson another leave on Monday, with defensive coordinator David Duggan assuming head coaching duties until he returns.

Wendy and Blake were happily married for 27 years and together they had three children. Our thoughts certainly go out to Blake and his family during this difficult time.
