The Washington Redskins finally made the move anyone who watched one of their games over the last year and a half could have seen coming when they fired head coach Jay Gruden, trusting Bill Callahan into an interim role. Three different quarterbacks have played for the Redskins already this season, and there seems to be less clarity on who the starter should be with each passing week. With that in mind, let's rank the contenders.

3. Colt McCoy

The Redskins could conceivably start Dwayne Haskins and let the rookie take his lumps at this level, or they can start Case Keenum, the best at this point of the bunch, and try to win some games. Going with Colt McCoy helps you with neither of those goals. Unless Keenum is unable to go due to injury, McCoy should be the inactive third-string QB and nothing more.

2. Dwayne Haskins

Haskins has the arm talent to be a supremely talented NFL starter, but he's just not ready to take big-time snaps at this point. That's not a bad thing, as plenty of QBs need to sit and wait a year or two before they can be expected to run the show. Just look at Patrick Mahomes and what came after he learned the mechanics of being a pro QB from Alex Smith. Washington needs to make it a priority to surround Haskins and Terry McLaurin with additional playmakers and getting an innovative offensive coach on the payroll.

1. Case Keenum

If you could construct a bridge quarterback in a lab, it would be Keenum. He isn't going to throw for 400 yards week in and week out, but the three-interception games, for instance, will be rare. Not great, but not bad either. Perfectly league average. The veteran quarterback should be given the reps on Sunday while Haskins sits on the sidelines and soaks up all the info he can. It's just the best the Skins can manage to do right now.
