The NBA board of governors is scheduled to have a conference call with the commissioner's office on Wednesday due to the growing concerns surrounding the Coronavirus outbreak.

One topic that will undoubtedly be addressed is whether or not Chase Center will continue to be open to the public. On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors hosted the Los Angeles Clippers at the new arena, which seats 18,000. Though the game wasn't sold out, the fundamental health violations related to grouping that many people together in an affected area is cause for alarm.

Following Tuesday night's game, Tim Kawakami of The Athletic now reports that it's "very likely" that contest was the last game before the Warriors begin playing behind closed doors.

That western region of the country is among the hardest-hit by the growing epidemic. Santa Clara County, which is about an hour away from San Francisco, announced this week that it's banning all public functions of 1,000 or more individuals.

Once could certainly argue that Golden State should have taken some form of precaution already. As of Tuesday, the global death toll eclipsed 4,000. The United States toll was close to 30, but is rising with each passing day, and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

Forget playing for the fans. It's time that the NBA acquiesces to the recommendations of public health officials.

The Warriors' next home game is scheduled for Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets.
