The Los Angeles Rams, not even a year away from making it to the Super Bowl and seeing their head coach Sean McVay coronated as the best thing since sliced bread, are now 8-7 and will watch the playoffs at home with the rest of us. That could prompt some sweeping changes in the coaching staff.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Rams will likely make some changes in their infrastructure, and one of them could be the firing of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

Phillips, the son of legendary Houston Oilers head coach Bum Phillips, joined his dad as the defensive line coach way back in 1976, with his first defensive coordinator job coming with Bum's New Orleans Saints in 1981. He has been a head coach twice, making the playoffs five times with the Broncos, Bills, and Cowboys.

Despite the likes of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey on his defense, the Rams have been as average as they come this year, ranking 12th in yards per game and 18th in points per game. Maybe some new blood is needed.

Phillips has been coaching in this league for over four decades, and has a laundry list of accomplishments as a head coach and defensive coordinator. However, after commanding a disappointing defense at the age of 72, this might be the end of Phillips' ride in pro football.
