Legendary Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster has endured a couple of rough seasons recently, as the Hokies have fallen off the face of the earth as a relevant college football team.

After Foster announced that he would be retiring after this season, the Hokies defense was definitely motivated to play their hearts out for him in his final season, and they did exactly that today, beating No. 22 Wake Forest 36-17.

What's even more special about this particular victory is that Virginia Tech honored Foster with a pregame celebration focused on his career.

And after their statement victory, players carried Foster off the field as he was showing off the famed Hokies lunch pail, which is symbolic of Virginia Tech's traditional, blue-collar style of defense.

Foster has served as a coach for Virginia Tech for the last 33 years. During that time period, his defensive schemes and strategies led to his reputation as perhaps the best defensive coordinator in all of college football.

Even as the Hokies endured a rough 6-7 season last year, Foster remained committed to remodeling his defense to have more success this year, and it's working thus far.

Hopefully the Hokies will be able to pull off a bowl victory to cap off Foster's illustrious career at the end of the season. Regardless, today was pretty sweet for Foster and the Hokies as well.
