Kirk Cousins is Trash But the Vikings Have No Other Options

When Kirk Cousins first signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, many thought that this would prove to be huge for them. He had put together three impressive seasons with the Washington Redskins, including a 4,917-yard season in 2016 to earn himself a spot in the Pro Bowl. Fast-forwarding to 2019, Cousins simply has not looked like the quarterback Minnesota thought they were bringing on to take the reins from the surprisingly effective Case Keenum.

After appearing destined for a playoff spot before the Week 10 bye last season, Cousins struggled in the second half of the year, putting together a 3-4 record, including a very costly week 17 loss to the Chicago Bears. In 2019, those struggles have carried over, as he's managed just 328 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions over the first two weeks of the season.

One of those interceptions was an absolutely terrible turnover in the end zone during the game against the Green Bay Packers, as he tried to force a throw off his back foot when he clearly should have thrown the ball away.

It's simply a turnover that cannot and should not happen in that situation, especially from your $84 million quarterback. Cousins would finish the game with a miserable 52.9 rating, nearly half of Rodgers' mark of 101.2.

Unfortunately for Minnesota, they have to endure Cousins' woes, as they have no other options at quarterback at the moment. Furthermore, they're locked into a big contract with the quarterback until the end of the 2020 season.

It might be time for the Vikings to start scouting college quarterbacks. They simply cannot move forward with Cousins for the long term.
