VIDEO: San Jose Earthquakes Keeper Daniel Vega Commits Spectacularly Embarrassing Own Goal
By Parker White
You don't have to know much about soccer to know this was a self-inflicted mistake of the highest degree. San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Daniel Vega received a light pass from his teammate and he allowed the ball to go between his legs and... into the goal.
He took his eye off the ball for one second and utter embarrassment ensued.
Vega isn't some scrub in goal, either. The same guy who let a slowly hit ball deflect off his legs and into his own goal, made this incredible save just a week ago.
Gotta eat you Wheaties next time, Daniel. This will surely go down as one of the worst own goals of all time, and the finger is pointed squarely at you.
Mistakes like these are made in soccer, albeit rather infrequently, but Vega's might just take the cake as one of the most memorably embarrassing moments in MLS history.
