An era ended in the Bay Area on Tuesday. The San Francisco Giants announced that they have designated second baseman Joe Panik for assignment, thus ending a nearly six-year tenure. While many Giants fans are saddened by the news, we'd like to remind those in mourning of what Panik brought to the organization. Of course, we're talking about "that play" in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series.

This'll last forever.

The Giants and Kansas City Royals were tied at two runs apiece in Game 7. Then-Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer hit a hard grounder towards second base that looked destined for the outfield.

That was when Panik made a ridiculous diving stop, then flipped the ball to Brandon Crawford to nab Lorenzo Cain. Crawford then threw the ball to first to get Hosmer, and we stayed deadlocked.

Panik played a pivotal role in the San Francisco Giants dynasty earlier this decade well beyond this individual play, and you best believe fans of the team in black and orange will never forget it.
