The Polar Bear strikes again. During Sunday's matchup between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso smashed his 30th home run of the year, a two-run shot off Aaron Nola. The homer tied the franchise record for most homers before the All-Star break, which is currently held by Dave Kingman, dating all the way back to 1976.

Did I mention that Alonso is only a rookie? He already surpassed Darryl Strawberry's rookie home run record, and he did it in the first half of the season.

Alonso is now hitting a phenomenal .281 with 30 homers and 68 runs batted in. It's too bad that the rest of the team can't seem to play as well as him, but he's been nothing less than the bright spot within the Mets' lineup.

Let's see how many homers he concludes the year with, and if we're being honest, 50 is certainly within reach for the young slugger.
