VIDEO: Paul Goldschmidt Walks Off Marlins With Monster Home Run

We'll hazard an assessment and say that Mike Shildt's decision to rest Paul Goldschmidt on Wednesday to "reset" him after recent struggles at the plate was the right call. However, that didn't originally appear to be the case. Goldy entered the game at first base in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out in his first AB in the bottom half of the inning in brutal fashion. Luckily, the six-time All-Star made amends in a BIG way when his turn came up in 11th, demolishing a 453-foot walk-off home run to give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory over the Marlins.

Oh, Adam Conley. 88 mph fastballs on the inner half of the plate look like big ol' meatballs to a slugger of Goldschmidt's caliber, even when he's in a funk at the plate. Those kind of pitches are begging to be tattooed, and the 31-year-old vet wasted no time clobbering this one.

To put the moon shot into perspective, it came off the bat at a staggering 110.2 mph, good for Goldy's hardest-hit dinger of 2019.

Just when you least expected it, too.

By no means has Goldschmidt broken out his slump, but as we know, it doesn't take much for him to get hot. Maybe eight innings was all he needed to get his mind right -- potentially awesome news for the Cards.
