VIDEO: Jeff Francoeur Hastily Backtracks on Highly Questionable Willson Contreras Comment

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras achieved an impressive feat Monday night when he managed to make enemies of two members of the Atlanta Braves organization -- catcher Tyler Flowers and broadcaster Jeff Francoeur. Contreras and Flowers were involved in a heated exchange of words, but former Brave Francoeur brazenly admitted during the broadcast that he regretted not throwing a "haymaker" at Contreras during his playing days. Well, TMZ reporters caught up with Jeff on Friday to question him about the audacious comment and the former outfielder promptly claimed that he meant it as a joke.

Talk about a change of heart.

The most shocking part of the clip was that Francoeur did nothing but compliment Contreras, calling him a "hell of a player" on two separate occasions.

But Jeff sure as hell wasn't that smitten about Willson four short days ago.

Francoeur didn't apologize -- a similar theme in baseball nowadays (see: Mickey Callaway and Jason Vargas) -- but at least he somewhat acknowledged that his petulant comments were wrong. Perhaps he was cognizant that the Braves were contemplating hitting him with a healthy fine, or maybe he was wary of ever running into Contreras on the streets.
