The Washington Redskins are having a hellish start to their 2019 season. With the team sitting at 0-5 after their blowout loss to the New England Patriots, the future of head coach Jay Gruden appears to be hanging on by a thread, and it's a matter of when, not if, he gets shown the door. With Gruden's job status continually in doubt, running back Chris Thompson defended the coach who gave him an opportunity in Washington, and broke down in tears in front of the media during a postgame scrum.

Thompson was given an opportunity by Gruden, despite being a draft pick of the Mike Shanahan regime. The seventh-year running back saw his greatest season in 2017 under Gruden, in which he recorded 804 yards and six touchdowns from scrimmage.

This season, however, Thompson has struggled behind a poor Washington offensive line, as he's recorded just 67 rushing yards on 20 carries. This ride may be ending for both parties.

The writing very much appears to be on the wall for Gruden, as the Redskins' latest loss caused owner Dan Snyder and team president Bruce Allen to leave abruptly after the game.

Chris Thompson and his teammates have the chance to help Jay Gruden keep his job next week, as they face off against the lowly Miami Dolphins. A loss to Miami could spell the end of Gruden's tenure in D.C.
