VIDEO: Brett Gardner Gives Yankees the Lead With 2-Run Blast After Chad Green Struggles

The Yankees definitely needed this one. With the Tampa Bay Rays up 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, veteran outfielder Brett Gardner helped get Chad Green out of trouble as he crushed the first pitch he saw from Charlie Morton over the left field fence to give New York its first lead of the afternoon.

That was Gardner's seventh home run on the year. The dinger also helped push his batting average over the Mendoza line to a very low .203.

Unfortunately, the Yankees have not been able to keep the lead, as it is now 5-3 in favor of the Rays after a towering shot from Brandon Lowe in the top of the third inning. It's clear that this game is going to be an all-out slugfest, as both teams are fighting for first place in the AL East. Hold on to your seats Yankees and Rays fans, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
