VIDEO: Union Berlin and Schalke Take a Knee in Protest Before Bundesliga Match
By Michael Luciano

Rather than try to crush dissent or dissuade protesters, the Bundesliga has been very open in their support for those fighting for racial equality and police reform all over the world. Before a Bundesliga match between Union Berlin and Schalke, the latter of which features an American defensive midfielder in Weston McKennie, both sets of players and referees took a knee at the center of the pitch in support of all those fighting for righteous causes.

This comes after Bayern Munich arrived before their match yesterday in shirts that read "Rot Gegen Rassismus (Red Against Racism)".
Some of the Bundesliga's brightest stars have been showing support for those protesting in America during this tumultuous few weeks. Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho revealed a shirt that read "Justice For George Floyd" after scoring against Paderbron, while Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram took a knee after his second goal against Union last week.

Kneeling during the national anthem and protesting police brutality are not solely American, as even German athletes are realizing the issues going on around the world, pertaining to racism and excessive force from law enforcement, must be stopped.
