The quarterback competition for the Auburn Tigers has been rather intriguing this summer, and on Tuesday head coach Gus Malzahn made a decision.

He named true freshman Bo Nix as the starter.

Nix, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 207pounds, was the top dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 class, who, during his high school days in Alabama, set state records with more than 12,000 total yards and 161 touchdowns for his career.

Nix is also the son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix.

Nix beat out redshirt freshman quarterback Joey Gatewood for the starting spot, who had just one pass and three carries for 28 yards last season. In the end, it was the true freshman who won the spot, which was up for grabs when fall camp came around.

Auburn, who ranks No. 16 coming into the season, opens up the year at home against the No. 11 Oregon Ducks on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
