Even in the agony of defeat, there's still reason for Blazers fans to have hope for the future.

The team and head coach Terry Stotts came to an agreement on a multi-year contract extension -- an extremely wise move.

It's a gesture of good faith. It shows both the team and the fans that the organization is committed to maintaining a competitive team and that they stand behind Stotts as the right man for the job..

Stotts has been a head coach in the NBA for 11 seasons and has been with the Blazers for the last seven. He's amassed a strong 325-249 record and has taken the team to the playoffs in each of the last six years.

His eight wins this postseason marked the most of any single playoff run in his head coaching career.

Of the 14 coaches in franchise history, he's only the second to eclipse the 300-win mark.

With Stotts under contract for an extended period of time and Damian Lillard expected to sign the supermax this summer, the Blazers can count on continuity and familiarity between players and the staff.
