Top NCAA Players Who Have Entered the Transfer Portal

The NCAA's transfer portal has been nothing short of a smashing success for players looking to take more control over their futures as athletes. While big names like Jake Bentley (Utah), Brenton Cox (Florida), and Antonio Alfano (Colorado) have already made decisions on their football future, these seven players are still out in the portal, and they could be massive additions to any program.

Williams was getting some NFL buzz last season before a bunch of injuries prevented him from ever getting off the ground in Palo Alto. Now a graduate transfer, Williams is hoping to show that his ability to still stuff the run at under 300 pounds will translate to any number of college and pro defenses. Flip on the tape and you'll see an elite athlete that could make some noise.

6. Michigan State RB Connor Heyward

Heyward was running into stacked boxes due to the lack of a downfield passing game with Brian Lewerke under center in East Lansing. The Spartans stud is to be had if anyone is looking to add a physical component to their running backs room. He's a guy who will lower his head and keep grinding out yards while making a play or two as a receiver. He could be lethal when he isn't facing eight-man boxes.

5. Michigan WR Tarik Black

Black has made it possible for other schools to contact him after falling behind Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins and Ronnie Bell in the Michigan passing attack pecking order. Black, who is rumored to be heading back close to home and joining Boston College, is a jump ball-winning machine that can breathe new life into any passing attack, should he decided to leave Ann Arbor.

4. Florida QB Feleipe Franks

The former Florida quarterback has conceded the Gators starting job to Kyle Trask, and he will play elsewhere in 2020. Sam Pittman and Arkansas are rumored to be in the lead for the gigantic passer, who is still looking for an ideal spot to beef up his completion percentage numbers, improve his accuracy, and show off his refinement as a pocket passer for NFL scouts.

3. Penn State WR Justin Shorter

Shorter is a former 5-star receiver who has yet to crack the Penn State starting lineup in any significant fashion. Still, at 6-4, 230 pounds and with bunches of speed deep down the field, Shorter has the potential to be a legit game changer in either James Franklin's offense in Happy Valley or some other lucky coach that convinces him to ditch Penn State.

2. Houston QB D'Eriq King

King left Dana Holgorsen after just one season (actually less than that), as the coach's deep dropback style of play didn't mesh with King's skills as a runner. Any team that runs an offense where the quarterback run is featured prominently would be stupid not to at least put feelers out for King, who ended up recording Heisman-caliber numbers during his 2018 campaign. King could be a Heisman contender in the right Power 5 scheme.

1. Stanford QB KJ Costello

Costello likely would have been drafted if he had managed to stay healthy this year. Instead, the 6-4 quarterback is looking to play his final year of college football somewhere else, as he looks to rebuild his draft stock and remind the scouts of the rocket arm he possesses. It's never a bad idea to woo a future pro quarterback, especially one with Costello's upside.
