Tom Coughlin Actually Needs to Go After Trying to Fine Leonard Fournette for Most Absurd Reason Ever

The saga in Jacksonville continues -- and this time, it has nothing to do with what's actually taking place on the field.

The team is sitting comfortably in last place in the AFC South, and have benched Nick Foles, the same guy they signed to a four year, $88 million ($50 million guaranteed) deal in the offseason, for his poor play after returning from a broken clavicle. Now, internal issues are plaguing the organization, and many are stemming from the ideals of head coach Tom Coughlin.

His most recent controversy involved his fining of running back Leonard Fournette, approximately $99,000 for -- get this -- sitting on the bench while inactive.

Isn't that what you're supposed to do when you're injured?

This is not the first time Coughlin and his players have been at odds. Over 25% of the grievances filed from players against NFL teams have come from Jacksonville, according to a recent letter from the Players Association, and their performance on the field has only made things worse. Coughlin has built a reputation for himself as a staunch and strict tyrant-styled leader everywhere he's been. He's a strong proponent of the little things. Of punctuality, respect for authority and doing things the "right way." Many of his ideologies, though, come from yesteryear, and don't fit the changing mold of the NFL that emphasizes player rights over anything.

His ethos was part of the reason why he was outed in New York after disputes with several players, and why he'll be in danger of being without a job in the NFL as a whole if actions like this continue to take place. If he wants to stay employed, he might have to make a choice: change with the times, or stay at home.
