The entire state of Michigan had a collective heart attack when top Detroit Tigers prospect Casey Mize, who has been carving up minor league competition, left a start with Double-A Erie in the third inning with an arm injury.

Tigers fans all over the country can breathe a sigh of relief, however. The Tigers don't believe that Mize was seriously injured.

With Mize still awhile away from the MLB, the Tigers might be best served keeping the 2018 No. 1 overall pick in bubble wrap as to not damage that golden arm he has.

Mize's numbers in the minor leagues are so cartoonish they look like something out of MLB The Show. Mize is 8-0 with an astounding 0.92 ERA in 13 minor league starts. The former Auburn right-hander has a pro-ready arsenal right now, including a solid mid 90s fastball and a splitter that might be the single deadliest pitch in all of minor league baseball.

With the Tigers going nowhere fast, so much is resting on Mize's right arm. Detroit can't afford to screw up his development, lest they bring back the days of Bobby Higginson, Mike Maroth, and losing 100 games every year.
