The Detroit Tigers fans certainly have not had much to cheer about over the last couple of seasons.

They have been searching for a great catcher ever since Ivan Rodriguez was dealt to the New York Yankees in 2008.

Jake Rogers may be the answers to their prayers. The best catching prospect in the Tigers farm system has been called up on Tuesday.

Rogers was the main piece acquired in the Justin Verlander trade with the Houston Astros.

The backstop is regarded as one of the best defensive catching prospects in all of baseball. He threw out an outstanding 56% of baserunners at double-A in 2018.

To put that in perspective, Yadier Molina threw out 40% of baserunners in his last full season at double-A. Much like Molina, he will have to work on his bat to rise into the class of elite catchers.

Rogers hit .302 in double-A but only .223 at Triple-A. The Tigers have no plans of making it to the postseason anytime soon which will let Rogers get acclimated to the big league pitching.

He is the first of many young prospects the Tigers are attempting to develop and he could already be one of the best defensive catchers in baseball from the second he takes the field. From Ivan Rodriguez to Bill Freehan to Mickey Cochrane, Tigers fans are no strangers to great catchers. Rogers has a chance to be the next in line.
