This Sad and Simple Stat Proves Pat Shurmur Should've Been Fired by Giants Long Ago

The New York Giants fell to the New York Jets on Sunday, and some are beginning to wonder if this loss (among all the others) officially puts head coach Pat Shurmur on the hot seat. The Giants remain an afterthought in the NFC East, can't utilize what little personnel they do have (Saquon, we hardly knew ye), and don't appear to be making any significant strides forward.

Well, want to feel even more depressed?

Shurmur's record as New York's head coach is significantly worse than...former head coach Ben McAdoo's. Nobody misses the guy with the slicked-back hairdo, but he at least coached the Giants to a playoff appearance in 2017. Shurmur (checks notes) will not be doing that.

Not even close.

Shurmur doesn't have any previous head coaching success to fall back on, either. His career record as an NFL head coach is even more abysmal, pouring cold water on any "optimism" that Big Blue fans could have leaned on, before getting hit with this McAdoo bomb.

With a record that poor, one has to wonder what the Giants were thinking when they initially hired Shurmur back in 2018. QB Whisperer? Nice try.

Fans are beginning to grow impatient with the team's lack of success, especially as New York's HC continues to publicly state that he thinks the team is taking steps in the right direction.

Legendary radio host Mike Francesa's interpretation of Shurmur's comments seems appropriate. The Giants have done very little this season to suggest that they are trending upwards.

McAdoo didn't even get to finish his second season before being canned by Big Blue, and Shurmur appears to be following that same trajectory. He installed Daniel Jones, a no-brainer, but he hasn't developed him, used his generational running back, or consulted a human with a brain on how to fix his defense. This joker is cooked.
