This Packers Starter Will Be the First to Lose His Job in 2020
By Michael Luciano

The Green Bay Packers had to be pinching themselves when they landed South Florida's Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft considering the 6-4 wideout with oodles of speed seemed like a home run selection.
Unfortunately, MVS saw his production decline under Matt LaFleur after hauling in just 26 catches all year long. If he isn't careful, the No. 2 wide receiver job could get swiped right out from under him.

In addition to the signing of Devin Funchess, fellow 2018 draftee Equanimeous St. Brown, who has earned praise from the notoriously prickly Aaron Rodgers, is returning from injury. The 6-5 receiver has as much physical talent as Valdes-Scantling, if not more.

Valdes-Scantling also faces competition from yet another receiver from his draft class in former Iowa State star Allen Lazard, who had more receiving yards and touchdowns than the former USF Bull. Rodgers singled him out as an "ascending player."

Rodgers trusts Davante Adams with his life, and he's said a lot of positive things about St. Brown and Lazard. Valdes-Scantling, however, has found himself on the wrong end of a verbal lashing from Rodgers more times than most other Packers receivers. The increased competition doesn't give Valdes-Scantling a good chance at becoming a starter once again and he could fall out of favor very quickly in 2020.
