'The Onion' Called Anthony Rizzo's Surprising Cubs Return and We Can't Make This up
By Mark Powell

Okay, sports might be a little too predictable now.
Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo injured his ankle earlier this week, and it was initially expected he wouldn't play again this season, putting a huge dent in the North Siders playoff aspirations.
Yet, on Thursday night, Joe Maddon shocked us all by releasing an updated lineup just minutes before their game against the St. Louis Cardinals, featuring Rizzo batting leadoff. Admit it, you were surprised. Maybe we shouldn't have been.

Yes, The Onion called it.
The joke lies in the fact that most believe baseball isn't the most physically demanding sport, although Rizzo literally couldn't put any weight on his ankle just days ago and was seen with a scooter to help get around. Basic logic tells us he shouldn't be playing.
Could this be the Cubs' Kirk Gibson moment?

We'll hold off on crowning Chicago for now, or even suggesting they're likely to land a playoff spot with the Brewers on their heels. Yet, Rizzo's seemingly unpredictable return (outside of pure satire) has to make you wonder--is some Wrigley playoff magic meant to be?
