Texans Signing LeSean McCoy Makes Complete Sense
By Jerry Trotta
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed a stunning decision to commence NFL cut day on Saturday, reporting the Buffalo Bills have released tailback LeSean McCoy.
Sure, the six-time Pro-Bowler is now 31, an age far past the predicted lifespan for running backs in the league, but it's still reasonable to presume that he will have a market of teams looking for his services.
And one of those teams should be the Houston Texans.
Lamar Miller will miss the entirety of the 2019 campaign with a torn ACL and MCL that he suffered in Week 3 of the preseason against the Cowboys -- a reality that leaves the Texans bereft at the RB position. Let's not forget that Houston also moved on from D'Onta Foreman earlier in the offseason.
Sure, acquiring Duke Johnson from the Browns might seem like a bargain now, but the Miami Hurricanes product was never a featured back in Cleveland. In fact, he was primarily used as a pass catcher, and almost never as a between-the-tackles runner.
The biggest workload he's endured in the league came during his rookie year back in 2015, where he rushed 104 times for 379 yards. Those numbers equate to a measly 3.6 yards per carry.
Now that Shady is available, he is the obvious choice to lighten the workload for DJ. The two flaunt dynamic skills that would only compliment one another, as well as the likes of Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, in the Texans offense.
Make the move, Houston, and thank us later.
