Texans Paying Seahawks to Take Jadeveon Clowney Remains One of Dumbest NFL Moves in Recent Memory

Jadeveon Clowney enjoyed his first breakout game for the Seattle Seahawks against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, logging five tackles, five quarterback hits, one sack, one forced fumble, and one fumble returned for a touchdown.

That marked the first time Clowney truly padded the stat sheet in 2019, though his figures don't tell the entire story of the sheer impact he's had on Seattle's pass rush this season. What we're trying to say is that the three-time Pro Bowler's stellar showing on MNF served as a perfect reminder that the offseason trade with the Houston Texans that sent Clowney to Seattle is one of the most dimwitted in recent memory.

All that the Texans asked for in return for one of the NFL's elite pass rushers was a third-round pick and two second-stringers: Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin. And to put the icing on the cake, Houston even agreed to pay half of Clowney's 2019 salary -- $7 million -- in the trade.

What more is there to say, folks? We know that Clowney wanted out of Houston because they wouldn't offer him the new and improved contract extension he insisted on, but to offload him for nothing significant in return just further proves the Texans' organizational ineptitude.
