Talks Reportedly 'Eerily Quiet' as MLB Trade Deadline Approaches

The wheeling and dealing that usually comes at the MLB trade deadline hasn't made its way onto the scene this year.

At least, not yet.

Trade talks are reportedly "eerily quiet" with the deadline a little over a week away, as many partial Wild Card contenders ponder whether to buy or sell.

Part of the lack of bombshell moves comes from too many teams on the fringes of playoff contention. In the NL, for example, there are four teams that are less than three games out of the second Wild Card spot.

It's tough for those fringe contenders to determine whether or not they like their chances in the playoffs, and if it's worth sacrificing key prospects to go all in for one year. A lot can change in a week, especially at the trade deadline. It's hard to blame teams for playing the wait-and-see game with plenty of time left to go before they start asking the tough questions.

It all makes for plenty of excitement, though. Even the top teams in the league, such as the Yankees and Dodgers, still have plenty of room for improvement, and if one of those teams that's on the outside looking in decides it's time to cut their losses, we could be in for some exciting moves.

Right now, though, it's a waiting game. The only question is who, if anyone, will blink first.
