Sweep of Nationals Should Absolutely Not Save Mickey Callaway

Mickey Callaway and the New York Mets read the tweets. They saw all the columns. And they responded in a big way.

After being swept by the pitiful Miami Marlins on the road, The Mets swept the division rival Washington Nationals, pulling off their first four-game sweep since 2016.

But don't get to full of yourself just yet, Mickey. You are still on the hot seat.

The Mets were saved by two miraculous clutch home runs by veteran castoffs in Rajai Davis and Carlos Gomez. If anything, this is more a testament to how horrid the Nationals bullpen is, as the unit wasted a 2.74 starter ERA by putting up a ghastly 13.03 ERA in this series. The idea that Callaway's job is officially safe and things are back on track in Flushing is just not valid.

While Dave Martinez's firing is a matter of when rather than if, Callaway appears to have bought himself a window after this successful four game stretch. However, He and the Mets have had brief runs like this before, so this should in no way solidify his spot with the Mets. Not yet, anyway.
