The New York Mets took two high school outfielders in the 2020 MLB Draft. Taking teenagers is more of a long-term move, and now Mets fans will hope the trust in the young players will pay off.

Pete Crow-Armstrong went off the board at No. 19 overall and is now facing high expectations in New York, yet the second high school outfielder taken by the NYM stands out as the smartest pick by the team in 2020.

The Mets used the supplemental No. 69 overall pick on Isaiah Greene. The left-hander stands over six feet tall and already had a commitment to play at Missouri. However, this pick becomes even better when you see what Greene signed for.

So the Mets got a top high school player below his initial expected draft slot, according to MLB.com, and signed him for less than his slot value. That extra money can now be used on the other picks and UDFAs.

Greene could end up being the centerfielder of the future and is still only 18 years old. He looks a bit scrawny now, but that should change once he arrives in the Mets organization. The Mets ownership situation is a bit of a mess, however, and fans should be hoping that by the time Greene is ready to go, there is a new group in charge who will look to develop and retain homegrown talent.
