Seahawks Making 2 Big Cuts Along the Offensive Line on Sunday Could Indicate Jadeveon Clowney Return

There had to be a secondary reason Seattle seemed so invested in the OL this offseason, right?

Sunday, in a two-part cap-clearing gesture, the Seahawks released center Justin Britt and veteran DJ Fluker, shaving considerable salary from their budget and resulting in about $20 million total in free space.

Gee, $20 million...that seems like an awfully familiar amount...

Yes, with their most disruptive pass rusher from 2019 still on the market, it appears the 'Hawks continue to consider a run at Jadeveon Clowney, who hasn't found another contender who's been willing to take a chance on him.

From a pure fit perspective, the cuts make sense, too. Seattle had loaded the line back up this offseason by importing Cedric Ogbuehi, B.J. Finney, Chance Warmack, and Brandon Shell, and had also used a third-rounder on LSU guard Damien Lewis.

The Seahawks offense can survive without the pieces they jettisoned blocking up front -- but it's perfectly fair to wonder if this is about something more.

Eventually, Clowney will be forced to find a home, and it seems his preferred spot just cracked the door open most of the way. It's hard to envision smoke not leading to fire here.
