Scott Boras Pretty Much Calls Out Nationals in Regards to Anthony Rendon Contract Talks

Everybody has finally begun to recognize Washington Nationals infielder Anthony Rendon as what he is: one of the best players in baseball. Well, maybe everybody except the Nationals.

According to infamous stickler Scott Boras, Rendon's agent, contract extension talks have not made the progress he'd hoped between his client and the club. In comments made to NBC Sports Washington, Boras complimented the Nationals front office for their work with him in the past, but he sounds frustrated by the team's apparent lack of motivation to extend Rendon.

Rendon is in line for his third straight season batting over .300, and he's on pace to easily eclipse 30 home runs for the first time in his career.

Boras noted that Rendon may be "on the way to a [third straight] 6 WAR season," adding that "there's only one player in baseball who's done that, and that would be Mike Trout." Boras went so far as to call the 29-year-old a superstar.

Though he's known for being almost unreasonably harsh in negotiations, Boras is probably right on this one –– and Nats fans agree. Rendon has been a more consistent performer for the team arguably than Bryce Harper ever was, and he's the heartbeat of a club that has battled its way back into the NL Wild Card race.

It would be head-scratching if the Nationals didn't find a way to get an extension done, but Boras' tone isn't exactly encouraging.
