Saying the Bucs Are Suddenly Somehow a Threat to the Chiefs is Outrageous

It's really bizarre to think how much has changed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in one offseason.

Just a few months after finishing third in the NFC South with a 7-9 record, the team is now being tabbed as a legitimate threat to the Kansas City Chiefs, the prohibitive Super Bowl favorites.

While we somewhat get the logic behind that declaration, it's beyond outrageous and premature. Please, the Bucs shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as KC.

This isn't us denying that Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski changes everything for the Buccaneers. Far from it, actually. However, saying that Tampa's offense will be on a similar wavelength to that of the Chiefs' frenetic machine is straight up disrespectful to Patrick Mahomes.

At this stage of their respective careers, Mahomes is levels above Brady. From a mobility, arm strength and accuracy standpoint, that's just the truth. At 42 years old, TB12 won't come close to keeping up with the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Do people forget that the Chiefs didn't lose a single playmaker from last season?

Then, we get to the defenses. In terms of points conceded per game, Kansas City ranked eighth in the NFL in 2019. The Bucs ranked 29th, and they didn't undergo any significant renovations this offseason. Nor did the Chiefs, but most of their playmakers -- Chris Jones, Frank Clark, and Tyrann Mathieu, etc. -- are returning.

Retaining stud pass rusher Shaquil Barrett was smart, but Tampa isn't going anywhere with its shambolic secondary.

We haven't even mentioned the loaded NFC! The Bucs will first have to get through the Saints, 49ers, Packers and Seahawks! What about the Eagles and Cowboys, who are poised for bounce back seasons?

Anything is possible when you have Brady under center, but putting Tampa Bay on the same level as the Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champs who are a combined 24-8 in the last two seasons, is asinine.
