The San Diego Padres are once again moving in a newer and younger direction as they carry on their rebuilding effort.

The team has reportedly hired Jayce Tingler as their new manager.

Tingler has served as a manager for the Texas Rangers' Dominican Summer League team, as well as their rookie ball squad in Arizona. He also spent time as the franchise's minor league field coordinator before Texas named him its interim bench coach in 2018. In the last year, he has managed in the Dominican Winter League for Leones del Escogido and continued to wear a number of hats for the Rangers organization.

Tingler also spent four seasons playing minor league ball with affiliates of the Rangers and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Former Padres manager Andy Green was 38 when the team hired him after the 2015 season. They ultimately fired him late last month just before the season ended.

The Padres are making the move after finishing 70-92 despite boasting a roster featuring first-year Padre Manny Machado, rising star Fernando Tatis, Jr., as well as Eric Hosmer and Kirby Yates, the latter of whom finished as one of the league's premier closers.
