Saints Doing the Right Thing by Not Trying to Get Cute With Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara has served as a spark plug on offense for the Saints ever since they drafted him 67th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

And though some might fault head coach Sean Payton for not giving him more touches, he's doing the right thing in keeping his workload where it's been moving forward.

It's easy to see his reasoning for not wanting to overwork him. Kamara has been just fine over the past two years, amassing 31 touchdowns and 3,146 yards from scrimmage.

As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Increasing the amount of touches he gets only heightens the chance of injury. With Latavius Murray replacing Mark Ingram in the backfield, it would be foolish to try and ramp up how much action Kamara gets.

Murray has averaged 4.5 yards per touch on his own during his five-year NFL career. He and Kamara will be just fine splitting duties like Ingram did last year.

The Saints are flush with talent on offense. It's best not to change the formula that helped the offense score 504 points last year en route to a 13-3 record.

Sean Payton has been coaching since 2006, and he's overseen one of the most consistent and highly productive offenses in the NFL during that time. He knows what he's doing with Kamara, and it's definitely the right move.
