Roy Williams Called UNC the 'Least Gifted' Team He's Ever Coached

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has had a long and successful career because he can get the best out of his team on a yearly basis. Being at such a dominant program has helped as well.

However, Williams' team is playing like a mid-major this season, starting the year with an 8-6 record at the start of conference play. The Tar Heels are dealing with several injuries, but the head coach won't offer up excuses. He actually had some harsh words to say about his current team.

"Least gifted" is a bit severe, even if he is being honest. Williams knows this team isn't as dominant as his past groups and the absence of star freshman Cole Anthony only makes things more difficult. But is calling out the team's talent a good motivational tactic? That remains to be seen.

Williams' team has won five straight after a rough start and picked up a conference victory over Notre Dame. There's plenty of time to turn it around, though the injuries don't help that cause.

Hopefully Williams' words can light a fire underneath this inexperienced team, as it's currently performing well beneath expectations.
