If you've opted to pass time during these days of quarantine by cranking up a video game or two, you aren't alone. Even the titans of the sporting world are using the extra downtime by sharpening their skills in everything from FIFA 20 to Call of Duty to Animal Crossing, and a number of baseball players even formed a league built around MLB The Show 20. And it's serious business.

How serious? Well, David Dahl of the Colorado Rockies has been forced to announce his retirement from the virtual game. The sting of defeat was simply too much.

"I’ve made the difficult decision to hang up my controller," the 26-year-old outfielder said, insisting that his 6-23 record was just not good enough.

(Even if that W-L total would have made him one of the better pitchers on the 2003 Detroit Tigers.)

You've got to appreciate the satirical value of Dahl's Instagram post. He dressed up his message with all the trappings of a real retirement announcement, right down to the black and white photo. He did everything but write up a heartfelt farewell to fans and supporters in The Players Tribune.

But then again, maybe that's coming tomorrow.
