It seemed like Ricky Rubio heading to the Indiana Pacers was signed, sealed, and delivered just hours ago. However, the Spanish point guard seems to have had a change of heart--or maybe wasn't to keen on winter in Indianapolis--and decided to stay in the West.

The Phoenix Suns finally filled their gaping hole at point guard by signing Rubio to a three-year, $51 million deal.

This comes after the Utah Jazz effectively kicked Rubio to the curb after trading for Mike Conley.

After being infamously selected ahead of Steph Curry by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth pick of the 2009 Draft, Rubio came to America in 2011, and has put up averages of 11.1 points and 7.7 assists per game across eight seasons, six of which were in Minnesota before spending the last two with Utah.

Last year, Rubio averaged 12.7 points and 6.1 assists per game. He may not be a superstar point guard at this juncture, but the Suns needed a ball-handler more than just about any other team in the league. His experience and distribution should work well on a team led by Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton.

While Indiana solved their point guard issue by swinging a Malcolm Brogdon deal, Phoenix grabbed one of the best-known free agents left on the market in Rubio. Not quite what everyone expected, to say the least.
