California made history on Monday when Governor Gavin Newson signed Senate Bill 206 into law, which permits college athletes to profit off their name and likeness, something that current NCAA protocol, of course, does NOT authorize.

The "Fair Pay to Play" Act allows athletes to seek outside endorsement without the risk of forfeiting their collegiate or amateur status.

While the law's passing was obviously met with a healthy dose of backlash from those correlated with the NCAA, professional athletes around the world of sports spoke gleamingly of the long-awaited settlement. Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman was one of those individuals and didn't hold back when voicing his hopes for what SB206 does to the NCAA.

“I hope it destroys the NCAA because I think it’s corrupt and it’s a bunch of people taking advantage of kids and doing it under a mask of fair play,” said Sherman, via the San Jose Mercury News.

“It's going to cripple the NCAA in a way where they start to bend, make it more fair and more of a symbiotic relationship between players and the NCAA, or it's going to destroy them in general and start a whole new way of college athletics in general, and I can respect that, too."

We don't have to tell you that Sherman is one of the more outspoken players in the NFL, and we don't often agree with his outlandish opinions, but the 31-year-old DB is simply spot on here.

It's worth noting that we aren't advocating for the NCAA's demise, but change needed to materialize and we can only hope that this is just the start.
