Richard Sherman and Trey Wingo Add to Confusion Surrounding Strange Loophole of New NFL CBA

The latest NFL CBA is all over the place. On one hand, suspension for players caught smoking marijuana would be a thing of the past, and the season could expand to 17 games with an additional bye week. On the other, the league is considering a ridiculous new playoff format.

One wrinkle that deserves closer examination is the expansion of a team's roster size from 53 to 55, as well as the removal of the stipulation that forces teams to deactivate seven players before every game. According to San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, the NFL struggled to explain why the seven inactive players statute is currently in place and should stay in place in the future.

In a sport where injuries can derail the flow of a game more than any other, and in a sport where serious injuries occur frequently, having all the players on a given roster available and ready to go makes sense, and it's odd that the league is struggling to defend their current model.

This CBA is clearly still not ready to be put into place just yet, as not every player seems to be interested in ratifying it with how it is currently constructed.

While some interesting ideas have been presented, it's clear there's still plenty of work to be done.
