The Washington Redskins are looking to trade a player ahead of their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. And no, it's not starting left tackle Trent Williams.

According to Ben Standig of The Athletic, the Redskins are looking to trade wide receiver Josh Doctson ahead of Week 1.

Washington flipping Doctson has apparently been an idea the organization has had for awhile now.

JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington told Sirus XM NFL Radio that the Redskins have been trying to trade the former first-round pick for the past two years, but no deal has come together. If that proves to be the case this year, Finlay believes that the team could opt to release him at the 53-man roster deadline.

After a strong collegiate career at TCU, Doctson never lived up to his first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. After two appearances his rookie season, Doctson went down with an Achilles injury. In his last two seasons of work, Doctson recorded 502 and 532 receiving yards respectively, for a total of eight touchdowns.

This offseason, the Redskins declined Doctson's fifth-year option, making him a free agent at the start of the 2020 league year.

With the writing on the wall, the Washington Redskins hope they can get some sort of return for Josh Doctson. If not, they may very well cut ties with him altogether ahead of their 2019 season opener.
