As the Cincinnati Reds continue to try and stay afloat in the NL wildcard race, the team was hoping to have starting pitcher Alex Wood back in action this summer.

Wood has been sidelined for all of 2019 due to back issues, but it appeared he was on his way to getting back on the mound with his first rehab start scheduled for Thursday. But after he suffered some back soreness before throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday, the timetable for Wood's return is still a very big question mark.

This isn't the first setback for the pitcher, as he's dealt with recurring back issues all season. His health has been a major concern for the Reds, who brought in Wood this offseason in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He was supposed to turnaround what had been a terrible pitching rotation for the Reds. But now that the team has a vastly improved pitching staff, posting a team ERA of 3.61 this season, all without the help of Wood, his return to the mound isn't as dire.
