The Boston Red Sox hired Alex Cora as the new manager in 2018 after a monstrously successful season with the Houston Astros. That move proved to be ridden with controversy, as Cora ended up being fired this offseason after a World Series win and a 2019 backslide, once his role in Houston's sign-stealing scandal came to light.

Cora has been replaced by Ron Roenicke on a permanent basis, and was somewhat cleared by Major League Baseball when he did not receive any further punishment for his role in Boston's ensuing scandal. That did not sway Red Sox executive Chaim Bloom, who said Cora's actions in Houston are why he was fired, and nothing in that arena had changed.

However, team president Sam Kennedy has now contradicted Bloom's words.

Bloom said the firing was for a reason. Kennedy has now come out and said a discussion will be held on Cora potentially receiving a second chance in Boston. This is good news for Cora, who is still serving a one-year ban from baseball.

Is that second chance a managerial gig? A front office job? Something with lower pressure? Who knows. But the door isn't slammed shut.

Cora not being punished for his time in Boston is the first bit of good news for the manager. Bloom and Kennedy now need to get together and formulate an organizational message to avoid any confusion. If they continue to contradict each other, Cora will simply serve as a distraction for the club all year.
