Boston Red Sox first baseman Mitch Moreland seemed as if he was on the cusp of an MLB return this season when he was assigned to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox for a rehab assignment.

His stint with the PawSox hasn't exactly gone according to plan, however. After being pulled from a rehab game a few days ago with a re-aggravation of his quad injury, Moreland has once again been taken out of the lineup.

Moreland was only hitting .225 in 47 games for the Red Sox this season, but 13 of his 34 hits left the yard, and many of them were remarkably clutch.

While the production of players like Michael Chavis and Rafael Devers has allowed the Red Sox to continue to hit well in Moreland's absence, it's never a bad idea to add a player with his power into the mix.

With their rotation still inconsistent and their bullpen in tatters (by design), the Red Sox are going to have to slug their way back into the postseason. Moreland has come through in the clutch time and time again, and will be needed if they want to make a deep October run.
