Red Sox Fans Should Feel Let Down by Dave Dombrowski's Bullpen Inaction

The 2019 MLB trade deadline came and went with the usual flurry of franchise-changing moves, but one of the teams usually among the more active around this time went curiously silent.

Despite an obvious need at the back end of the bullpen, the Boston Red Sox failed to swing a deal for any of the top relievers on the market, including Felipe Vazquez, Kirby Yates, Edwin Diaz and new Atlanta Brave Shane Greene.

As good as that lineup is, Red Sox fans will now have Dave Dombrowski to thank for a bullpen that is still taking on water as August approaches.

The Red Sox will chase for the postseason with a bullpen in which Nathan Eovaldi is being used in high-leverage situations, Matt Barnes has disappointed, and the duo of Colton Brewer and Ryan Brasier just aren't getting it done.

Can a bullpen led by Brandon Workman be trusted to get meaningful outs in October baseball? Probably not, because they're struggling to get outs in July baseball.

The Red Sox literally had one job this deadline, and they not only failed to get a deal done, but they were rarely mentioned in the rumor mill for any top relievers. If that bullpen fails them, Dombrowski must own some culpability.
